Humans are made up by their senses, they determine our emotions and behaviours. For Neurodivergent people the built environment can be disabling. Information received and transmitted via our neurotransmitters is subconscious, and can vary at any given time of the day, particularly when other daily stress factors compound themselves.
Our physical and social environment is a constant data feed to the brain.
Design is adaptable and fluid. Space and the features within the space should move with people and encourage sustainability, productivity and cohesion.
As unfolding research into understanding the complexities of Neurodiversity and how this impacts the daily lives of Neurodivergent people, it is necessary to reflect how our built environment both enables or disables individuals.
To date 20% of the UK's working population are Neurodivergent. Add to this figure the number of people who are either unaware or undiagnosed, and that percentage increases.
Our belief is that environments are designed to a standard where people can use a space that enables, is free from prejudice and embraces equality.
